Step by step BM HRM build...

Post by mcinku »

I thought this would be useful for all those first time builders... so I'll post my build progress here and show all my mistakes, so people can learn from.
I learned a lot for this forum, so I thought I should give something back... not much but it's from the heart :D
Let me just say... this is my first D style amp build and let me tell you something... it's not easy. My respect to all who already did this... not to mention people who are doing it all the time.
I bought a Ceriatone kit but without the trannies.... I got those form my local amp tech (he has a guy making trannies for his hifi amps...)

First... I mounted all HW and did the heaters (I decided to go with Marshall style), tough job wiring heaters, it helps to do this outside the chassis first and then move it in... I did it the hard way of course. :?

2.) Tone stack pots, switches and input jacks (I did the jacks outside and then move them in)... it was a very slow process but it was fun (at least for me)

PS: Let me know if you spot something fishy

Looking good. :D

The only thing that jumped out at me was the relay board mounting.

Are you going to use standoffs for the boards?

They look to be sitting on the chassis floor which of course could short out something.

Please excuse me if you know this and are going to elevate them somehow. 8)

Thanks for posting this. Haven't seen too many build progress threads here.

I am thinking of building a 50W #124 using a Ceriatone chassis and boards, going to source out all the other parts. Is the chassis aluminum, how do you like it?

No need for that, I used additional board which sits under the relay board.

Yes the chassis is aluminum and it looks nice and sturdy to me. I already own an Overtone and till now, it didn't brake or anything like that.

Using eyelets on the boards seems like a good choice rather than turrets and something I need to start doing myself.

Fun to watch go together mcinku.

Oh ok, I couldn't see them, looks like you know what you're doing.

Yeah, I love following a build like this with good documentation.

I can live vicariously through them. :D
