ODS before Skyliner and Bluesmaster
To better understand some of the posts here at ampgarage I could need some help in regard of the names by which the different ODS tonestacks are called here usually:
Before the first Skyliner and Bluesmaster amps appeared, there have been some different variants of the ODS. As far as I know all these differ in regard of (not only - of course) their tonestacks (clean). To make it simple I will name only the pot values:
Prototypes like the 'Overdrive Deluxe'
No idea of their tonestack
First production series. 50 Watt, small chassis, some with the "starve" switch. EG: HADs #001 or Lindley's #003 and #008.
No idea of their original tonestacks at the day they were first fired up. All I know have been modified by HAD at some point.
Second production series with the black or red 'Fender' type switches for bright, deep, rock/ jazz (some still guitar/mic), normal/pedal and accent.
Those examples I know of these have: 500K treble, 250K mid, 1M bass
Third production series with toggle switches for bright, deep, rock/jazz and a silver panel. No presence, no ratio.
Those I know of these have: 250K treble, 250K mid, 1M bass
Fourth production series with ratio and presence. Some with a silver (#075), some with a black panel (#119 or #124 before the Skyliner mod).
Those I know of these have: 250K treble, 100K mid, 250 K bass.
That makes for (at least!) three different tonestacks before the first Skyliners and Bluesmasters appeared.
But I read here at ampgarage of only three names for ODS tonestacks: classic, skyliner and bluesmaster.
So are all the early tonestacks before skyliner and bluesmaster usually called "classic" here - despite their differences - or did I miss some posts concerning other names for these - at least two more - tonestacks?
Thanks and cheers

Re: ODS before Skyliner and Bluesmaster
Max,
I have a particular interest in these 70's amps. I think they are very cool!
See: https://tubeamparchive.com/download/file.php?id=7371
Some of these amps have 1M bass and treble pots and a 250K mid potentiometer.
One amp I know of with 500K treble and bass pots is known as well.
Also one amp with 350k bass pot and 250K treble pot, 100K mid pot.
Of course this info doesn't mean a thing without the rest of the schem like the mid cap value etc..
Have fun!

thanks for your reply. I liked some of these 70ies very much too, especially the very early ones like those of Lindley (#003 and #008). Very natural and open sounding OD (no snubbers as far as I know) but still full and fat if you turn them up a bit. Very versatile amps for studio work.
Some of the second production series (e.g. # in the 30ies to 40ies) I found a bit too midrangy for my personal taste, but I know other guitarists who like these a lot too (all a matter of personal taste and playing style).
I think I can find out the more important tonestack values and post them. Thought they would be well known here.
But my question still is:
Are all these different pre-Skyliner tonestacks called just "classic" here at ampgarage?
Have a fine weekend

Max,
What we call 'Classic' here is the early 80's. That would be fourth production before upgrades.

Jelle
at first some values of a second series specimen, # somewhere in the 40ies:
treble: 510pF, 500K pot
middle: 10nF, 250K pot
bass: 100nF, 1M pot
How is this stack called here?
have fun too

Re: ODS before Skyliner and Bluesmaster
That would be one of the 70's variants as far as I know. I noticed that these amps are not discussed often on this forum since 'they are not the Robben Ford thing'.
Re: ODS before Skyliner and Bluesmaster
Wish they were discussed more often. Those older 70's ones were some sick tone. Lowell George, David Lindley......... Anyone have some knowledge - extensive or otherwise - of the amplifier George used with the 4 x 10 Marshall cab?jelle wrote:That would be one of the 70's variants as far as I know. Pretty sure he had an Overdrive reverb, I think that's the one with 500K bass and treble, and 250K mid. I think -

Thanks Brandon and Tony. Like I said, SICK tone that just cuts through the mix like a knife. Especially for lap steel/slide players.

Yes ODR thats what Lowel G used ,Funkalicousgroove wrote:Pretty sure he had an Overdrive reverb, I think that's the one with 500K bass and treble, and 250K mid. I think -
but there were actually several versions of ODR amps even in the 70s,
but the rare blackface version were a different setup,
btw, Little feats Keyboard player used a few
big Dumble amps sometimes too

Re: ODS before Skyliner and Bluesmaster
The only ODSR I have innards to had that setup, however I think the hand drawn parchment layout running around was different.
Anyone know what became of LG's amp?

Also a rumor last year that Santana was playing a LG amp for a time.
