So I know what the screen grid does and I understand the function of it.
In practicality though...I have 1K 5W screen resistors in my Deluxe Reverb now. The stock value is 470R but I heard when I started building the amp 1K resistors would prevent tube failure better. I realize maybe this isn't the case now.
Anyways I got these old 5W Dale 400R resistors. Using a smaller value screen resistor, from what I have read I would experience a bit more headroom and less compression.
The 400R is 70R less than stock though. Can the 6v6's screens take the extra voltage? I am using JJs btw.
Thanks...

Re: Screen Resistors
Unless you're running an abnormally high b+ I wouldn't worry about the screen voltage, 70 ohms is peanuts there. Close enough for rock and roll I'd say.
1k's are needed much more on screen hungry tubes like el34's.
Re: Screen Resistors
I use 470R ceramic power resistors.
Sounds good stock, so I stuck with it.
Mine is a '67 dripedge AB763.

Re: Screen Resistors
Sorry to hi-jack this thread I was wondering what you guys think about my question regarding the 470R screen grid resistors on the schematic of the RT 66 going to ultraliner OT that I do not have, so do I wire them to the 40uf power supply cap?
