Can someone explain strat switch or "mid shift" mo

Post by markmalin »

Actually, just a simple diagram on how to do it would be great.

Thanks
Mark.

So it's just switching between a 0.01 and 0.047, eh? This is what's called the "strat switch" or "mid shift" mod?

Yep - it is very simple, and very effective.

So which value works with a strat the best, the .047uf?

I just did the mod (temporarily). I didn't have a PS orange drop 0.047, just a 715 O.D. It's not terribly noticeable... but it IS Christmas Day and I'm playing "honey will you keep it down" volumes. I do notice a difference, just not that substantial. Should it be that substantial at low volumes?

Also, does this have more of an effect as you rotate the mid control, or is it accross the Mid band??

My experience with my non-HRM is that I simply (yet dramatically) prefer one setting over the other with single-coils versus humbuckers. It just sounds "right" on one setting or the other - never on both settings.

Just curious -- did you go with the 0.047 or the 0.02 as the alternate cap? Heisthl mentioned some people like 0.02 better than 0.047 or 0.05

Thanks

I don't but the few times I've done it I've always had the switch fairly close to that area of the board. The last couple of times I've done it I used a .047 in series with a .02 (yields .014uF) so I can just short out the .02 to get the .047.

Does this switch work with a HRM Version too?
Thanks
