Hey all,
I've been thinking about adding a buffered FX loop to my D'Lite 44 build. I know the usual thing around here seems to be to use a Dumblelator but having another outboard unit just seems kinda dumb to me. Has anyone built a Dumble circuit with a built-in tube-buffered FX loop? I took Bruce Egnater's amp seminar a couple years ago and the buffered FX loop in his JTM/JCM amp is killer! It sounds great and is pretty simple to implement so I thought I'd try adding it to my D'Lite. Has anyone else experimented with anything like this? I thought I'd ask before I jumped in the deep end...
Thanks,
Andy

Re: Buffered FX loop on D'Lite...
I put the Ironsounds FX loop in my D'Lite and it works well.
It has true bypass and a 6 db pad switch.
I have heard it's a serial loop but it works well with time based effects.
( reverb, delay, etc).
Probably not what you wanted to know, I just thought I would throw it out there.

Re: Buffered FX loop on D'Lite...
The challenge with a tube buffered loop retrofit is adding the tube.
You can relocate the bias pot, and place it there.
From that point, a number of circuits work well.
umbleator, KOC, etc.
If you're going to buffer it with an opamp, the Ironsounds loop is the way to go.

Re: Buffered FX loop on D'Lite...
I've currently got a switch to go between the OT primaries. I find I never use it (sounds much better in the 8k setting) so I'm just gonna put the tube there. I'll have to widen the hole but it should fit I think.brownnote wrote:The challenge with a tube buffered loop retrofit is adding the tube.

Re: Buffered FX loop on D'Lite...
I built my 50W HRM with a tube buffered loop...I just used the Dumbleator circuit (except tweeked the 10k to 27k and the 1k5 to 1k8). Took the power from the screen supply and made a new node...you don't have to use two nodes for a D'Lator like the real thing.
