Jensen C15P wattage?

Post by jer »

Hey guys, I've got an old Jensen 15inch speaker that I may use in a some type of combo amp build, but I'm not certain of it's wattage.

It came out of a 2xEL84 amp from approx 1965, but I was thinking about running it with 2x6L6 or 2xEL34 if the speaker can handle it.

The only info on the speaker is: "25 1017 C15P, C8100".

If any of you guys have additional information as to what some of these numbers mean, and the wattage or anything else cool about this speaker, I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Not sure of the actual specs but since it came out of a 2xEL84 amp I would guess 25 watts.

This from Ampwares site:
R, S, and T suffixes denote a low power rating.
Q and P suffixes denote a medium power rating.
Fender did not use the "P" rated speakers very often.
The N and LL suffixes denote a high power rating, with "high power" being a relative term. The P12N, on a good day, can handle 20 watts

Which by the way is copywrited here:

You'll find it 5 paragraphs down under speakers

They are in 100W combo here:

According to a page I've seen from a 1955 catalog, the C15N was rated at 20W. The "P" would be -- well -- higher than the "R", but lower than the "N". I would guess ~15W. I wouldn't push it too hard unless you can make a pair to distribute the load. It should be a nice speaker.

Thanks for all your input.

Alot of the info you've found is what I've also found, but I thought it best to see if there were any differing opinions.

Now, I'll just need to figure out what type of amp to try and build using that speaker. Hmm...decisions, decisions!
