My first amp build. Finally finished it up a couple weeks ago. So far I've lowered the FET resistor to 150K, and bumped up the dropping resistor between B+2 and B+3 to 4.7K. My PI was getting around 340v. After those tweaks and several tube subsitutions, I think I've got my voltages in line.
B+1 491
B+2 495
B+3 455
B+4 337
B+5 329
V1a 200
V1b 209
V2a 209
V2b 211
PI 305,311
Here is the schematic that I used. Once again, big thanks to heisthl and others on the forum. This place rocks! I started thinking about this a year ago, and I almost gave up until Henry nudged me into trying this myself. He made up the boards and panels for me as well.
The clip was done on a PRS Hollowbody spruce in the clean channel, with mid boost on. PAB engagede on the lead. Miced with a EV ND267 dynamic
mic.
Volume 8.5
Treble 5
Mid 7
Bass 5
Presence 4
Master 2
Don't be afraid to let me know what you all think! I think I'm getting it dialed in, but other ears are needed.
Thanks,
Mark

Nice clip!
I posted about raising the PI drop to 4.7K and then I see you already did it! LOL I am a tool tonight.... haha! I had to click in and edit this post.
Good job.

THAT'S what I'm talking about. Sweet, clean, warm and well played. Great report. Looks and sounds great.
Re: Bassman 10 ODS conversion. Sound clip for feedback please.
Awesome!!
Looks like you went with a 'full Dumble' circuit rather than a Fender hybrid, so, can I ask you about your speakers? Is this a 4x10 combo? Or a head with a Dumble-friendly type of speaker?

Thanks for kind words guys. Like I said before, couldn't have done it without the Garage....well maybe I could have but I'd have a new boat anchor instead of an amp.
Scott, one of your previous posts gave me the idea for the 4.7k, so no worries!
ic-racer, it's 4x10 combo, Super Reverb size but SEALED back. This thing was beat when I got hold of it. See the pics below. I had to make a new grill cloth frame cause the old one was warped to hell. I don't want to install any more Fender grill cloth for a while. It's a bitch keeping the lines straight and tight. I put some Eminence Legend 1058's per Henry's reccomendation, and I really like 'em so far, although not broken in yet.
I hope to get an overdrive clip up tomorrow, but I'm a little concerned about the brightness in the OD now that my voltages are more tame. I'll let you all chime in and see what you think.

That's pretty sweet! just out of curiosity, what are the transformers on bassman 10? I'm glad that you had the courage to modify an old silverface, I wouldn't touch that thing with a stick!Blindog wrote: ...

I would have to agree with your comment on the Garage, I just recently assembled my first overdrive clone (+/- with problems) but I couldn't have done it without the Garage. I've also have learned a lot during the process, so thank you all.

Thanks!
Actually silverface Fenders are a great donor for a D style build. The
transformers are fine. A lot of guys use Bassman iron for their builds. The Bassman 10 has a different OT than the Bassman heads. (Fender #021848) Mine was from 1974. Later models have ultra-linear taps.
