Post by talbany »

Non HRM built on a 12x7x2 Hammond Aluminum chassis.. w/Mercury mags..I put the 100k OD entrance pot on the back.. Thanks Heistel for the layout.. If someone wants it I'll be glad to post..I don't have time to do any clips as I have to get it in the mail tomorrow...

Very nice crammage, are you using 2 can caps for the other filtering? It's too bad you didn't have a couple more inches, you could have put in another tube for a d'lator like this:

Wow  . That is amazing, how on earth do you get your soldering iron in there. Or are you using 'freakin' laser beams'?

I wouldn't pesume to compete with Heisthl when it comes to crammage!!!
The other multistage cap JJ 40-20-20-20.. nice caps and saves a little room..The amp sounds Ok.. You have to run it up a bit to hit the sweet spot.. Plate voltages dead on 450.. 200v @V1
Generally for these small amps clients are using them for smaller studio type gigs so I would prefeur a little higher voltage on the plates gives the amp a little more zing at lower volumes..480v or so.. The Od channel is real gainey and the clean is a little stiff...but liveable.. the boost is 47k lift on mid pot tail.. PI and presance and tone stack is Bluesmaster...

I can't see your dropping string (It's probably right on the can cap) but you might have to get down to the 180v range on V1 to get rid of the stiffness. Using vibrolux type PT sans tube rectifier will get you around 465 on the plates and also gives you the filament taps for relay power. The "Gil Ayan" entrance and exit mods will smooth out the OD gain.

I love the vibrolux PT Love em 470/475 Zing!!! I normally would use them in a build like this but had over ordered the Mags so what the flock...Pototype anyway..Normally I would lower V! to get a little more spank out of it but this guy wants a little sizzle on the clean channel..The dropping string is 22K 2.2K 1k...w/1k resistor instead of choke.. Which I am by the way warming up to.. Amp is still smooth..The stiffness is not bad some guy's like a fast attack it's just not me..
I would rather the clean be a little stiff than the OD be soft...If you know what I mean.. Thanks for the PS layout by the way.. We have tried these fast reacting diodes a while back and had quite a few failures with them.. I don't know if these were the exact ones you sent I'll check.. Have you had any issues with them...

NO issues with
http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDet ... -MUR4100EG and I have some out there getting major abuse. I here ya on the 1K RF resistor but I can't do much over 390R otherwise it's choke time.
