xformer noise

Post by rutledj »

I bought a weber PT for a build I'm doing and the noise is driving me crazy! This thing actually rattles. If I squeeze the covers together in the center it will quieten. I have tightened the bolts as tight as I can get them.

Is there anything else I can do? At bedroom level the xformer is louder than the amp

I emailed Ted Weber and he just said to tighten the screws :(

Thanks,
Rut

If you can't get an exchange for defective merchandise, you might consider a light lacquering of the laminations -- enough to act as a "glue" on the outside, not to penetrate below the surface.

Well, since I've already installed it I doubt they will replace it but I will email and ask. Since it only quietens when I squeeze the covers in the center I don't think it is the laminations rattling. I'm beginning to wonder if it is the wires rattling against the cover. Just don't know.

I've seen some people wrap multiple rubber bands around the housing in several different places...But I never knew what they were doing. I assumed noise...

Perhaps this could help?

Good luck.

Pull the cover and put a fold of cardboard in there.

Hell, even my Trainwreck transformers "talk" while I play. The first time I heard it I panicked.

The card board trick worked for me on another amp. I just foled it up and packed the bells on over the cardboard nice and tight.

Thanks gentleman. I'll give the cardboard trick a try.

If cardboard doesn't work, the end bells are not required. The look nice and they do offer some protection.
