HRM PAB + OD Strat clip

Post by stelligan »

I'm getting closer to Strat friendly with my 50 watt HRM. I may just have to send it to ToneGeek for tweaks! Mostly adjusting bass trimmer up and going back to 22M in PAB. HRM clean Strat panned left - OD/PAB on right. Please leave feedback. The usual lame wanking. I like to sing on the clips to distract folks from the picking clams.......

Hmmm... I was fully distracted :D :D

Sounds pretty strat friendly to my old ears - there's hope! :D

BTW Singing and playing were great - wish I could sing :cry:

Loved that groove! Amp and playing sounds great. Singing was great too... Just get your sis on there with you and you'd be golden!

Thanks Nick and Scott.
I am getting excited about having my strats out again. Those clips of tonegeek's HRM BM are killin' and are having me thinking I should convert - or hell, just build another! And that groove - My wife bought me Steve Gadd in a box a couple years ago. Great loops from a groove monster.

P.S. Scott, I am currently working up a set list with my siblings to do some recording. My brothers play drums & bass. And with sis - we all sing. Should be a hoot.

Thanks for the compliment but your amp sounds great as is to my ears. Its got really smooth OD and you can hear it wants to break into feedback if given just a little shove. The tone is quite full. Loved the rhythm track too. I am equally jealous of your singing ability. Kudos all the way around! What's the 22M for? I am using 22M resistors to keep the relays quiet but they don't affect the tone that I know of.

toneman,
Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, my kind of music too - electric blues. As far as mods - this amp now has reverted back to stray very little from stock skyliner ODS values. It is 2 x 6L6 with Bassman PT and a Prosonic alike OT that is 4,200 CT with 2/4/8 ohm taps.
Dropping string is: 3k3, 15k, 10k
Voltages are:
CL1 = 190
CL2 = 196
OD1 = 212
OD2 = 219
B+2 = 446
B+4 = 420
B+4 = 338
B+5 = 300
OD trimmer 1:00
Treble trimmer 1:30
Bass trimmer 2:00 (*used to live at 10:00)
Mid trimmer 11:00
preamp tubes: Electro Harmonix
Power tubes: SED 6L6GC
Speaker: G12-65 in open back combo
Mic: CAD Trion 7000 ribbon at 3 - 4" (30 degrees off axis for some reason*)

I am such a numbskull that I only recently had the revelation that my middle OD tone trimmer was the bass trim! :? I just assumed that it was Bass,Mid,Treble left to right. And all this time I was swapping resistors and caps..... Really kinda helps to know what you're twistin'. I think I overdid it just a smidge because this is the bridge pickup mostly. OD gets swamped on the neck position, but don't use that to solo much anyway. That is most - if not all - that is going on in this amp. The tube buffer(dumbleator) in the loop is a MAJOR contributor in this amp IMHO. I never leave home without it. Thanks Henry!!

Tonegeek,
Thanks for the compliment. As far as the 22M resistors. I had them down to 4.9M for awhile because I felt the volume jump from clean to PAB was a little too pronounced. I believe I read somewhere that changing values there also has an effect on the location of the bass rolloff and knee of the curve. Your HRM build is a Skyliner w/BluesMaster PI + EL34s - isn't it? I love the Strat OD tone in your amp. It is balls out swingin'!!

P.S. to toneman. As far as the touch - it kind of varies. Strings are 12's with and unwound 20 on G at standard pitch. Picks are dark purple Dunlop little stubbies. Always use 12's on my Gibson scale length guitars - sometimes 11's on Fender scale - this might be 11's? I don't change them unless they start to feel to stiff or break - which they obviously almost never do :twisted:

Great stuff Stelligan. I'm glad to see you're getting your amp dialed in even closer to what you hear in your head.

Thanks Michael.
I have that TL box speaker test I mentioned to you slated for this week and will probably post clips next weekend. 2 short clips each speaker. Clean with bright switch and OD + PAB. Speakers: G12-65, EV12L, Delta-Pro 12A, RWB, Cannabis Rex, Celestion Seventy 80, CL-80 clone, Emi Legend. Damn - I wish I owned a TonkerLite. I heard one a few weeks ago and really liked it.

:lol: The story is that while (being the most stubborn dog alive) 'Hugo' always follows me and lays just in front of my speaker cab every time I start to play, but my daughter can do anything to him. Hugo would never let anyone else put a hat and sunglasses to him and wait while Maija (my daughter) takes a photo of him.

So Hugo is ok :D
