Heheheh, Le Electrodes.
Now where did I put that Swiss Army knife.......

Man is that guy a mister wizard or what!
Making your own triodes!
I wonder what his story is?
Like, is this just his hobby and workshop?
I was like watching a ballet!

From my Google translator:
F2FO, amateur radio since 1959, here shows the various stages of construction of a lamp triode conducted by the Centre. Cette lampe a permis d'établir des liaisons avec d'autres radioamateurs situés sur 4 continents. This lamp has helped to establish links with other amateur radio operators located on 4 continents.

With access to all the tools and equipment he has and a background in machining, electronics, metallurgy, and glassware, we could ALL make a triode  Anybody got a vacuum pump like that 2-piston job he's running :?:
Up until now, all I wanted was a sheet metal brake :?

Yes and no. From what I've read all those tools and machines are DIY too (although somewhere you'd still have to have access to a machine shop). So, if you can make the tools you can probably make the triodes. I don't know 100%, but again that's just what I read. OK the Swiss Army knife probably isn't DIY, but it is a nice touch.

Also, I think this may be one of the most circulated DIY videos I've ever seen. It's been on every forum I visit (and sadly that's a lot).

Awesome stuff!

Near the end of the video, he's seen in an industrial strength machine shop. It's probably a top secret French Defense Dept. facility deep beneath the streets of Paris. He's one of those scientists they don't let out often 8) He makes triodes in his spare time

Maybe we should have a group buy and put together a machine shop. We would be unstoppable!

Probably one of 5 people in the world still alive that know how to build triodes by hand.

I see now why "tooling" and who has it is so important to making tubes.

That video made me feel very inadequate

A single triode?! Mere child's play.

Well... So maybe that was the coolest thing I've seen on the internet.

I enjoyed watching how he got the load lines. Very cool stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Been there, done that. Got one! A machine shop that is. The bad news is that it was 17 below zero the other day and I don't heat the machine shop if I don't have to. The oil supplies and coolant systems don't work at 17 below. You don't want to handle metal that's any colder than around 10 degrees. (all temps in degrees Farenheit)

Wood shop. Got one of those. I keep that one nice and warm, that takes some doing when it's 17 below.

"Unstoppable": No matter how many tools you or I have there's always something else that's either necessary or very handy of have. We're all "stoppable" if we're short that one necessary tool. Then there's the secret ingredients, skill and knowledge.

I don't entertain guests in my workshops. Think about it... I'm a musician and I work with machines that will remove my fingers if I'm not paying attention. That's the reality of it. If I have guests no work gets done, I won't work with distractions.
