I use military surplus rotary switches. I've got a few NOS that would be the most impressive part of a custom amp by a wide margin. When I see thick wafers and massive gold plated contacts I know I have a winner! I think I have a couple "cheaper" versions with ceramic wafers and silver plated contacts.

Their inventory of vintage military communications gear isn't what it used to be but they'll still surprise you with some good stuff. If you email them and describe your application they might even pick out a grab bag of rotary switches for you.
Come to think of it PM me and I'll put together an assortment.

1+ on the Hoffman switch. I couldn't turn it without a knob ond2camero wrote: or you can get the same from hoffman
 It's built like a tank

I just ordered one and it arrived this morning. It is a BEAST! I agree, I didn't have a knob on it, and I had to grip it with pliers to get it to turn. Very nice!drhulsey wrote:1+ on the Hoffman switch. I couldn't turn it without a knob ond2camero wrote: or you can get the same from hoffmanIt's built like a tank

$16.95 Marshall type at http://www.tubesandmore.com/ (link > "Selector switches")
pros - no knob required, low profile, and labelled
cons: expensive and needs a large cutout

Haha, me too! I got one with my Ceriatone TW kit, and I was afraid that it was damaged when I coudln't turn it by hand! I put the knob on there and it's a very good feeling click-click-click.
