This project was so much fun. I'd basically head out to the garage after my wife and girls went to sleep to work on it for an hour here and there. I've been making acoustic guitars for the past twenty years or so recreationally, and built a few amps about 15 years ago, but in all reality, this was like making an amp for the first time again---and I absolutely loved it. I told my wife it was like trying to stretch out a good book so it won't end. (And now I want to make another Lightning clone.)
Thank you so much to Taylor for making his Wonderland chassis' available, and thank you to Ryan C for all of the documentation and support during the process. I can't tell you how much time I've spent on his YouTube channel and Google Photo album. Thank you also to everyone here who helped out with absolutely newbie questions about transformers, cabinets, wiring, etc. You were life savers!
There were definitely some quirks with the build. I oversized the effects return mounting hole to use an isolation washer and couldn't use that as a chassis ground. I ended up moving some of those grounds to the speaker output jacks. I also left my half-power switch wires fairly long and honestly don't remember why. Hopefully these things won't be an issue.
Now I just need to get my strat back in playing shape, make a cabinet, and get a speaker so I can see if she'll even power up.
I went with Bassman transformers from Mojotone:
- Power: Mojo762EX
- Output: Mojo774
- Choke: Mojo777
- Reverb: Mojo776
I have a ton of pics, but here are a handful.
