I am not technical so please bear with me. I have a Crate Vintage Club 20 112 combo. It has a jack to use an external speaker. When I connect the external cab that speaker works, but the speaker in the combo is silent.
I have been told switching to a different style jack might fix the problem. Apparently there are two style jacks: one that cuts off the speaker and another that would use the internal combo speaker and the external cab simultaneously. Anyone have more info on this? Others tell me it may just be wired that way and changing the jack will not help.
Any input is appreciated.

That's not a problem. It's by design. You'll have to modify the wiring for that external jack. It's probably wired similar to this amp.

Re: Crate Vintage Club extension cab question
Thanks Sluckey. The existing combo has a 16 ohm speaker. The cab has a 16 ohm as well. If I can rewire the jack to enable both speakers will I need to do anything regarding the transformer impedance?

Re: Crate Vintage Club extension cab question
Schematic shows 8Ω internal speaker and 16Ω external, but the OT only has one impedance available, so I'd say don't worry about it. Just keep in mind that there will be a mismatch.
The headphone jack and the ext. speaker jack wiring is intertwined. Since you are not technical I suggest you just leave it alone and accept it the way it is. Or take it to a qualified technical person.

You are so helpful. Thank you. So, if I take it to a tech to be rewired, what is the drawback of having a mismatch of the 2 16 ohm speakers with a transformer for a single 16ohm? Thanks again for your time and help.
