Tube ID

Post by angelodp »

I just got around to pulling the PI tube on an old AB165 I have been working with. Tha amp works and sounds good. The PI tube says Ratheon 5713?? I find little about this tube and am perplexed how the amp even works with this tube in there? Anyone know a bit about this tube?

Are you sure it's not a 5751? 5713 is a large RF power triode.

It must be a 5751 which is a sub for a 12AX7 with lower gain somewhat like the 12AT7 that the amp calls for in that socket, but note that the 5751 can not produce the ultimate current drive that the outout stage needs and was designed to have.

This means that when / if you push the amp hard enough / loud enough to get the outout stage to clip you will hear horrible grid blocking distortion taking place, not the good type of outout stage distortion!
