Trace Elliot Velocette issue

Post by Aaron »

Hi All,

I am totally stumped with a Velocette that I’ve been working on for a while. It was brought in cause the the amp faded out and hasn’t made sound since. I noticed that the heaters weren’t glowing so thought it might have been the fuses, but they are good. So the trouble shooting began, I’m still getting heater voltage but tubes don’t glow. I tried new tubes, no go. Tried the old tubes in another amp and they work. Put a signal through the amp, and I’m getting a good signal through to the output tubes.
Anyone else had experience with these amps?

Thanks,
Aaron

I had one of those come through my bench with a bad OT. What ohm readings do you get on the OT primaries with no power. Measure from blue to brown wire and also from blue and brown to the red center tap (assuming it has those standard colors)

Just so happens that one of the OT was replaced a while back but still had the stock in the other side.
The right OT (Peavey replacement) measures 90ohm-CT-120ohm.
The left OT (stock) measures 120ohm -CT-699ohm.
So I would say it’s cactus.
I disconnected the OT to see if the other side would then fire up and it still doesn’t.

Thanks,
Aaron
