Switchable cathode cap for SC and HB pickups
Hi guys! Just wanted to know if having a switchable cathode bypass cap (say 25uF and 5uF) for each of the gain stages in an amp build (say a D style) is worth it or would a switchable cap setup in the first triode of V1 (before tone and volume) be enough?
Re: Switchable cathode cap for SC and HB pickups
I did a switchable cathode cap on V1 of a 65 Bassman-ish circuit, and it is very noticeable and useful. I consider it a Marshall voicing (my lower value cap is 1uF - I didn't have a .68uF on hand). I don't think switching the other cathodes in this amp would be an improvement.
But other amps might respond differently.
BTW, what I did was to place the 1uF in the circuit, attach one end of the 22uF to the 1uF, and switch the other side of the 22uF between grounded and not grounded, thus using a SPST switch.
