Cheap blank chassis source found

Post by Phil_S »

Not sure if this belongs here in Tech and mods should do as they see fit. Sorry if I am coloring outside the lines.

Amazon has Bud .05" aluminum chassis of various sizes for about 30% off list price. I just received a 17x7x2 for $21.25 and 8x12x2.5 for $17.75. I bought 2 to get over $35 for the free shipping, which, IMO constitutes an additional discount. They arrived in 2 days, shipped from Lexington, KY via Lasership. I didn't see which carrier actually dropped it. I believe if I had bought these elsewhere, i could have paid maybe $55 + at least $10 for shipping.

I recognize some folks like heavier gauge metal. .05" is roughly the equivalent of 16AWG. I've used Bud before, quite a while ago. Really, it's fine, but you might want to provide a reinforcement plate for a heavy transformer.

These have lips turned in on all 4 sides with folded closed corners. I'm not sure exactly how the corners are made to stay put, but I think there is a spot weld and a very small round mark where something was probably ground off.

I'm thinking I'll have a new project going on shortly!
