Reverb driver and tank replacement

Post by sonicmojo »

I admit I don't know much about reverb circuits but I am trying to restore a SUNN Solarus which is missing the reverb tranny and tank. I don't know what original tank it had and I can't find a similar driver so do you think if I put a Fender type 25K/8Ohm driver and 8Ohm Accutronics tank in this (like 4AB3C1B) that it would function okay? Do you think I'd need to change anything else about this part of the circuit?

For the Sunn 190L (Solaris and Sceptre Models) the original transformer was pn: 3RT- Reverb Transformer, 28-3300. The Reverb Tray pn: OC Electric, 29-0007.

The only other thing I found on the RT was on Mercury Magnetics page for a drop in replacement. With some research you should be able to find the answer. Try looking up the tank impedance also as that would tell you if the Fender RT would work.

If you don't have the original schematic for that it should be readily available with a search. Let me know if you get stuck and I'll try, or someone else will, try to give you more advice. This is a great way to learn more about Reverb circuits.

Also not that when you mount the new tank it's output side needs to be as far away from the power transformer and wires carrying AC as possible!
