“89” Steel Guitar Amp

Post by M Fowler »

Man it makes me laugh, Phil tried everything from 6L6 to KT120 tubes in his early bassman style amps using 6SC7 and 6SL7 preamp tubes and the steel guitar players swore by them.

Now he switched to 12AX7 hence the "9" reference to the amp's name and this one is a JTM45 circuit used by Paul Franklin. Now every loyal steel guitar player will say these are the best ever. :lol:

Next will come the blond influenced Bassman - cleaner, tighter, then the black face derived LWs, then the silver face, then he'll go out of business and sell the Littler Walter name to a group of venture capitalists. The BF LWs will become renowned pedal steel collectables. You heard it hear first. The genius at work :lol: :lol: :lol:

...though to be fair so so many others have piggybacked a ride on the shoulders of Leo Fender - Marshall, Randall Smith, Rivera, Soldano, etc and all the modern boutique cloners making retro repros, so it is unjust to single anyone out, still, it is fun.

I am just amused at how uneducated guitarists really are. Some one says LW octal preamp tube amps are the best for steel guitar and off goes a frenzy. All this and I am a huge fan of the Fender 5b6 circuit too.

Now early LW 50w and other similar amps are being sold off because they found out how limited they really are performance wise.

Milkman amps will kick ass around a LW amp any day or night period and Tim's popularity is hitting big time which makes me smile in a good positive way for him.

The brand list of amps a steel guitar player uses at home, in the studio or on stage is a mile long based on the Steelguitarforum discussions and my own personal observation.

Oh and while I'm still bitching about people, I hate it when I read "I've played through every amp there is and the best amps out there are" _____ fill in your favorite brand.

Makes me want to write well you haven't played through one of my amps or any of the others built by people all around the world dumb ass.

Model 59 = combo 50w with 9 pin preamp tubes or you could call it a 1959 Fender Bassman :)

Model 89 = head Marshall style JTM45/100 has 80w with 9 pin preamp tubes
and four 6L6GC tubes and {GZ34 rectifier tube equaling 80 watts of power?}

Comes to say that older Fender/Marshall circuits sound quite good as some always knew.
And there are still plenty to "reissue" :) Their 5b6 and 5c3 "reissues" sound quite good...
