a choke question
Happy weekend. I have just started building amps, and have a whopping 2 under my belt. My father in law just gave me some chassis's and various parts. 1 is a big choke. It says on it.....23-21 and underneath 450. would this thing be like 23H @ 450? What can this big choke be used with? Thanks in advance. Glenn

Doubtful that those numbers mean very much. Here are some ways to figure it out:

If you've read through, nothing new here, but written a bit more scientifically.

Google for "measure unknown inductor" and you'll get lots of hits, mostly the same 3 methods and also youtube videos.
For a sine wave generator, you can rig up an old computer with freeware, cell phone app (be careful), walkman (burn a CD with sine waves), etc. You don't need to buy a sig gen and that with a DMM should allow all the testing needed.

If it is a choke for HT supply, then you'll likely want to get an idea of inductance versus dc current. This article may help:
