EMI Line filter
They were about to toss a box of these at work - my question is would running one of these between my amp and wall socket remove mains hum/noise?

Sweet!!
They do well at removing high frequency noises from the mains.
Use them with a balancing tranformer for a very nice line conditioner as shown here.

Thanks for the info. Regarding the balancing trafo they are using, the article says to not use the 800va one with a power amp/ reactive load. Did you find this to be a problem?

Good point! I guess that depends on the size of the amp that is plugged into it.
I have no practical knowledge of how one would size a balancing transformer for our flavor of amps. Hopefully someone will jump in on that question.
The article suggests that a 2000 VA size should be considered. However, that may be for many hundreds of watts/channel, solid state power amps.
Here is an approach that just uses the type of conditioners that you have and foregoes the balancing circuit. Probably more relavent in the short term.
Those torroidal tranformers a kind of pricey IIRC. A 2000 VA size could be totally unrealistic. Maybe even more than just buying a tried-and-tru Furman type power conditioning unit.

I got a bunch of these line filters from Apex Jr. I can't comment on line noise, because never a problem, but I prefer these metal IEC sockets over the black plastic ones. Much more durable, bolt to the chassis.

I will probably mount this into a breakout box with some IEC connectors.
