Looking for a source of good small (pf) value ceramic caps

Post by chopstuck »

I looked at Mouser and Digikey but where are the 15 cent ceramic caps that I remember buying ?
A bag would last so long that it's been years...

From what I read, the Panasonic caps are a pretty good choice.
What series and where can I get them ?
I know that buying in lots of 50 or so is the way to go but
I'm not going to buy a lot to experiment if they cost .60 ea.
I 'm looking for values from say 50 to 500pf.

Seems once people agree on something it becomes harder to locate.
Or is it me ?
Heavens, an unused PI input !

You'll want to be looking for NPO rated caps too, minimum value drift with temperature. NPO = negative positive zero aka no drift. I ordered 500-paks from Active Electronics 15-20 years ago, 1000v rated 100, 220, 470 pF, cheap of course, and still have scads of 'em. Like everything else, price has gone up, and more so in low quantities. After all it takes as much effort to sell you one as it does ten thousand, that's the biz. Pretty soon it looks like the order pickers will be getting a $10.10 min wage, see what I mean?

That would seem true but I still can't see how Mouser can sell resistors bagged and tagged in quantities of 1 for twenty cents. Maybe a parts picking ant colony?

Maybe something like this ?: http://www.bgmicro.com/Ceramic-Capacitor-Set.aspx

I don't know what voltage rating those caps are................but they are inexpensive.
I just bought the last lot of 450 ceramic disc (500V and 1000V) pF assortment from my favorite surplus supplier----- they run these from time to time---- or maybe contact them:

I bought a similar hi voltage ceramic disc cap assortment from them yrs ago----- still using them but it was time to stock up.........................gldtp99

Good old Mouser's taking a loss on that kind of order. And it's mighty decent of them to entertain small quantity orders. I'm sure the large quantity buyers must make up for it. Their catalog is enormous, they must have warehouses to match, and an army of employees running around picking parts. There's also likely some automated parts picking. Old Navy/Banana Republic opened up a whopper warehouse a few miles south of here around 12 years ago, and it's largely automated. What employees there are, navigate the interior of the building by bicycle. The loading dock looks like it can handle 200 trailers at a time. Humongous operation.

I buy all my stuff from Newark. I ordered from them twice and then received a phone call from them wanting to know if there was anything at all they could do for me and they offered me a bunch of discounts. Ive been using them ever since. The fact they have a distribution center 60 mi away is a plus- I get my stuff the next day usually.
