Coricidin
cbass' broken finger thread got me to thinking about my search for Coricidin bottles. I always look for them in every thrift shop/antique store I visit, and so far, I've never seen one. Hundreds of old pill bottles, but never a Coricidin.
Are they that rare? Or has every slide player in the country already cleaned out all the shops? Anybody here have one?
I'm not much of a slide player, but think it would be really cool to have a real Coricidin bottle around.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?
Re: Coricidin
I'm guessing most folks threw the empty bottles in the trash.
Re: Coricidin
I think my old home city dump is a slough/slue/slew now so I can't try retrieve all those old bottles for you.
Re: Coricidin
I have one. The simple truth, as I see it, is that the simple glass sleeve (fully open at both ends) I've got is every bit as good and doesn't make the end of my finger sweaty.

Re: Coricidin
$24? Oh yeah, I should expect that from stewmac
Re: Coricidin
Yeah, it's pricey. But if it fits the bill, it might save money in the long run. I have five or six slides that are okay, but as Bono sang "I still haven't found what I'm looking for." Maybe the Stew-Mac offering is it?vibratoking wrote:$24? Oh yeah, I should expect that from stewmac

Re: Coricidin
Legend was Duane bought a whole box full of Corocidin - puzzling the druggist. Didn't want to run out of slides.
70's-80's there was a copy of the bottle made for slide and sold under a misspelling on purpose, something like Corriacidin.
Good luck on your bottle search.
Easier slide find should be the Lowell George 11/16" Craftsman spark plug socket. Of course get one to fit YOUR finger... Heavy chrome steel is a treat to slide with, Lowell sure had that right. Along those lines Dunlop has a couple heavy brass slides that are very nice, some are chrome plate, some not.

down technical blind alleys . . .
Re: Coricidin
Careful with those heavy slides -- my 1930 Style O has a nice little ding in it from a friend being a bit over aggressive with a big brass slide. Tough to remain calm when you see something like that.Leo_Gnardo wrote:Easier slide find should be the Lowell George 11/16" Craftsman spark plug socket. Of course get one to fit YOUR finger... Re: Coricidin
I actually have a Blues Bottle glass slide that is probably pretty close to a Coricidin bottle. I think I prefer a metal slide over glass anyway, but if I found a genuine Coricidin bottle, I'd grab it up!
Truth be told, I'm a really lousy slide player anyway....

Re: Coricidin
I like slides made from many materials, glass, chrome, brass, ceramic, for different sounds. I like both ends open, no sweat, and no taper inside or out. I prefer the outside radius to be of a certain size. I like a radius slightly larger than a coricidin bottle. This usually means the inside is too big for my pinky, which is how I wear it. I solve the problem by lining the inside with a strip or two of leather so that I get a nice no slip fit. The leather strips give me the control I want and it won't fly off my finger when I'm fingering. My $0.02.
Glass
They were easy to find in the seventys, not now.I got a re issue one but its too thin.Just doesnt have the mass to resonate.Your gonna find one,Ill google right noe for ya,Good luck Bro

I bought a pair of shoes from a drug dealer the other day. I dunno what he laced them with but I’ve been tripping all day,
Re: Coricidin
Back in the day I had to take Coricidin to breath. I always save the bottles for slides. That was long and long ago and they all gone now.
However, Jim Dunlop realized how much slide players like them and so:

Not actually made by Coricidin but these are pretty close and only about $8. Plus they come in two thicknesses and three sizes so you can get a good fit. I liked my old Coricidin bottles but truth be known, they weren't the best fit, and they had pesky seams; these don't.
I use a regular glass slide now, thick walled as I can get. I have a few for different fingers & fits. Got one huge one that's really thick. It's got a ton of sustain but IME can only be used by itself; no additional fingering possible. But it's great for playing slide on a bass, ala Mark Sandman.
