tube amp noise
Hello. I just bought a used marshall avt50 112 combo used through mail order from guitar center. it seems to make alot of noise coming from the chassis. I have never had a tube amp before, and I know this one is just a hybrid, but is this likely to be just a fact of tube amps, or this amp, or is it likely to be that there is something wrong? it's just a general electric buzz sort of sound, but more than i've ever heard from any of my previous solid state amps.

Re: tube amp noise
"A General Electric buzz" sounds like it could be from the power transformer, where the 60 cycle magnetic field is causing some vibration. This is not dangerous, but not typical for a well-built transformer. It's possible that the four bolts across the laminations (sometimes also used as the mounting bolts) are not tightened properly, and you might quiet it down by carefully loosening and then re-torquing them.

That model has a cooling fan, I believe - is that what's making the noise?thyforest wrote:marshall avt50 112 combo

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde:
There is only thing worse than getting tube amp noise, and that it NOT getting tube amp noise.

Re: tube amp noise
The noise is considerably less when I turn the volume on my guitar to zero. It stops completely when I stop playing.
What?
