precious shiny GOLD!
(maybe)
i found said shiny where i find all my offbeat electronic components: digging in a box
theres a golden screwy part and a ceramic sandwich with four golden wings
CTC C3-28 G098 stamped on top
any ideas what this is? a resistance amplifier? magneto reluctance transmogrifier?
(forgive my blur, its the best i got)

Pretty sure that's a right-handed smoke shifter. Gold plated? Put it back in the box for ten years. We'll see.

TEN YEARS! crap
did a little poking with my DMM, theres definitely PN juctions in this bitch, silicon ones .699V
that means its definitely a transient compander coupler

It's a power MOSFET for high frequency applications.

Looks like a miniature propellor for your genius-beanie hat. "Junior Achievement in Science Award." You should see the big fancy one you'll get when you win a Nobel prize. And even bigger for the IgNobel.
Seriously I'm more inclined to believe it is in fact an old UHF transistor, with fancy heatsink attached.
down technical blind alleys . . .

Typical bipolar VHF/UHF power transistor.......
The bolt is for attaching to the heatsink, - the flats are you regular emitter/base/collector connections - emitter oor collector ususally doubled.
Remember - even a straight piece of wire has inductance. At VHF or UHF even a few tens of nHs - yes: nanoHenries- can make a big difference.....

You could but then your dog would be the only one that could hear it.
