Cap Can Clamps.....
Just got a box of parts in the mail ( won't say from who because they've always been real stand up folks) but the can clamps I received are not very robust.. they came a bit deformed and actually not what I expected.. Any preferences out there? looking for something where the metal is a bit more stout and not cheap looking..... and are actually round..

Re: Cap Can Clamps.....
I have gotten them from Tube Depot, AES and Triode on occasion. They are all a little flexible so that they can conform to the cap after tightening the nut.
Re: Cap Can Clamps.....
How nice do you want?
I tend towards hardware overkill usually.
You can buy split collar face clamps with almost any hole size.

Re: Cap Can Clamps.....
Notice the clamping bolt is completely tightened, which isn't likely with a cap in the clamp. These are easily made round by bending by hand, and with the cap inside they are OK.
There are some lower profile, thicker metal clamps that start off round and are robust - I used two of them on my recent JMP50 build because I liked the yellow zinc finish.
There are also clamps in two pieces, but these require two nuts and two bolts.
I like the aluminum locking collar!

Nothing wrong with the clamps, they "round-up" when you install the cap. Don't sweat the petty stuff, you know the rest.

My thoughts exactly. Those clamps are fine and no reason for hesitating.Clyde wrote:Nothing wrong with the clamps, they "round-up" when you install the cap. Don't sweat the petty stuff, you know the rest.

Look fine to me although maybe not as robust as old ones.

Yes.... those are the ones I recall.. yellow zinc finish thicker non-deforming metal.. can't find them?gktamps wrote:Notice the clamping bolt is completely tightened, which isn't likely with a cap in the clamp. These are easily made round by bending by hand, and with the cap inside they are OK.

Thanks for the reply's... I will use what I have and they will be fine.. It's just that I had seen clamps somewhere that were a little thicker and nicer looking..

Watts Tube Audio has the nicer 1-3/8" (35mm) clamps you're talking about----- I recently bought some from them----- they may also sell the less expensive ones that need to be hand shaped to fit the cap cans well, so contact them and make sure that they know exactly which clamps you're looking for.
