Sano 16T

Post by HeeBGB »

Ok so some of you may remember this amp from the best pawn shop prize thread a couple weeks ago. My brother picked this up for me at a flea market he frequents on Sunday mornings.

Anyway it's not horrible sounding but it is kind of anemic. No juice. So I started poking around and first thing I did was a voltage chart. Apperently the screens are connected directly to the rectifier B+ with no resistors SO the screens are higher than the plates. 319VDC on the screens and 303/304 on the plates. I was always under the impression that the plates need to be of higher voltage than the screens. Am I missing something here?

Also the trem is no longer working. It worked when I got it so something has changed since. BUT first things first. I want to get it sounding decent then I will fix the trem

I will probably put this amp up for sale when I feel it is sorted out.

Fender connected the screens to the OT center tap throughout the early '50s and it was apparently part of their transformer specification (tho I'm unclear what the transformer manufacturer would do with that info). Sano had some unique designs, but likely also did some copies. I have one that, in addition to the usual guitar, mic and accordion inputs, has one for a tape player(!)
