5E3 cab dimensions

Post by Randall »

I want to be able to put a large bell speaker like a Celestion Blue in my 5E3s, but it seems the original plans bump into the PI tube. A cab I bought from a reputable builder, which I THINK is original does not work for this. I did a cardboard template and positioned the Blue where I would like it, and then measured. It comes to the speaker frame 1.5" from the right wall and 5/8" from the floor panel, as looking from the back.

Question is, do I dare tell another builder this is where I want it, because if for some reason the dims from builder to builder, or even from chassis to chassis aren't standard, I could get a couple of cabs that might not fit the speakers I want to fit.

SO, if I could find the original dims for this cab, it would go a long ways towards my confidence in asking a builder to adjust a baffle me.

plus, I wonder why they don't all already do this? Some top amp builders can outfit Blues, why wouldn't they just move the hole 1/4" and be able to accept pretty much whatever speaker you want to try? Vintage I suppose.
