Torres HRD Dumble Channel switching mod.

Post by FUCHSAUDIO »

A customer wanted to know if I could tweak this, I decided to pass on it, but he did send some documentation I thought I would share.

Lots of things that can be pointed out, not the least of which is the single overdrive tube....duh. Why call it a Dumble ? lol. Enjoy.

Hi,

If it has to do with Torres Engineering, calling it a "Dumble," then it's to swindle some poor individual who doesn't know any better out of his money. TE has a reputation that is old as the internet.

Too many posts at different discussion groups about products, store mods, amp kits, mod kits that either suck tone or don't work at all, period, if they occur/arrive at all. Comments about Mr. Dan Torres aren't very flattering, to say the least.

A kinder comment noted a add bias to an amp kit by TE stated that the bias only would sweep 5 milliAmps. The author related the Mod Kit for a Fender Concert II was so awful that the he return the amp to stock. Another person related that the Super Texan Mod to a Fender Bassman amp was so horrid that a real amp builder offered to return it to stock on the house.

The Dumble mod kit comment on Harmony Central isn't good, wrong parts and the comments about DT aren't for polite, mixed company.

You are very wise not to pass on any of Dan Torres's Mod's although with your experience I am should you could have made it work after major revisions.

Best regards,

Steve,

PS Torres Engineering Kits sold briefly from a TE store in Santa Barbara were $25.00 for less than a bucks worth of parts.

I own a Super Reverb modded by Dan years ago and it is the worse sounding POS I own. I haven't returned to back to a Fender yet.

I've rebuilt quite a few that sounded pretty awful, motorboated, and were generally horribly built. I'm amazed that Torres has stayed in business this long. With all the bad press, the awful mod kits, and all the horrid amps he's built. It's not like the internet hasn't broadcasted all this either...strange indeed.

Thought I would share. Looks like more than a few people checked it out.

Yeah those are the Torres Engineering staff taking another look at the layout/schematic trying to figure out why you think this isn't close to Dumble spec's

Years ago I was about to purchase one of his amp kits, and I stumbled upon similar comments here that made me change my mind.

No telling how much grief you'se saved me.
