Picked up some good transformers, any ideas for good builds?

Post by bastardbus »

I picked up this great high end tube record player this past week that works great. It is a Voice of Music unit and the amp runs a 5Y3GT with a single 12AX7 for a single pre and phase inverter into push pull 6V6s.

The specs on the

-Power Transformer
545vac @ .077a
5vac @ 2a
6.3vac @ 1.3a

-Output transformer
looks to be
6600 - 4ohm

I have a nice empty Fender Frontman 25 cab that will hold a 10inch speaker, maybe a 6G2 Princeton or any suggestions?

Thanks

77mA @ 545ac limits the choices.
Older iron was usually conservatively spec'd.
Might squeeze an 18 watt variant - it was running 2x6V6.
Good Luck,

Yes it was running 2-6V6 5y3 and 12AX7 do you think I can squeeze another tube in there like a 7025 to do a brown princeton? I know that original had like 600 @ 70ma I recall...that is pretty close. Worried about the heaters though too. Everyone seems to over shoot the original specs this is cutting it close on the other end.

I'm by no means an expert.
With new iron I tend to over spec. the PT.
Having said that, an extra 3mA or so on B+ is nothing.
300mA on the heater supply isn't much - I'd go for it.
But that's just me.
Be Lucky,

You can probably build a very nice low power amp with a pair of EL95's.
