Weed Cop
This is from a local TV show. Guess the exact rules on pot are still a little hazy here in Seattle:

That was funny!

Recently in Vancouver, WA there was an accident where the driver hit and killed a pedestrian.
He admitted to smoking pot previous to driving.
At first I believe he was charged with vehicular manslaughter.
It is untested ground as there isn't really a test for how stoned you are when driving.
Last I heard they dropped the DUI charge, but it opens up a lot of litigation about driving while stoned.
I suppose it could still be considered DUI (Driving Under Intoxicants) but there will probably have to be some case law before it can be successfully prosecuted.
I don't think the state government was quite ready for legalized pot as far as the laws go.
Personally I am in favor of legalization but there is a lot of work to do to figure out how the DUI laws will be enforced with the use of it.

I grew up in Eastern Washington and had a bit of trouble with Johnny Law over the evil weed. I was a juvenile at the time, so nothing ever really came of it, but it caused me a lot of problems I didn't enjoy.
I never thought I'd ever see the day when it was legalized in WA. I'm curious to see how it all works out.

						Re: Weed Cop
Over in Europe it's still illegal.
Some countries have de-criminalized possession of personal use amounts.
Legally it isn't lumped together with narcotics.
To get jail time for weed, you'd have to get busted for a large amount.
I don't condone anyone driving under the influence of any intoxicant.
Therein lies the problem.
Blood/Pee testing will come back positive many days after a person has smoked a joint.
What matters is whether a person is currently under the influence.
The problem is how to reliably test for this.
In the states where it has been "legalized", what happens if the company you work for has you tested & it comes back positive?

Re: Weed Cop
Counterpoint: i think everyone should get wasted and drive with sunglasses at night, I also think that the cops should stop everyone who wears sunglasses after dark.
My stance is for freedom and also soft data collection for governmental agencies responsible for getting wasted people off the streets. Everyone wins except for personal liberty and limited government supporters.
This is why I should run things. I am cheap and confusing.

So - a recap of where we are at :--
We need cars that don't smoke and drive themselves.
Called James.
And less control on governmental data collection.
And sunglasses that turn clear when the sun goes down.
And Lefty & Miles running the country.
Vote Loony - you know it makes sense.
Turtles !

I would look at this as not a victory for stoners but a victory for state rights and a big F.U. to the feds.People are sick of them controlling their personal life.
Wether or not you think weed isn't right or Abortion ,gay marriage ,gun control and on and on its just not for the feds to decide. It's not their job.
Whats right for California or New York is not always right for here.

Re: Weed Cop
Bob, yes companies that have a zero tolerance policy on drugs will not be OK for THC in your drug screen.
So any company that currently does drug testing will not accept any positive results.
Sort of like a guy showing up to work drunk or on narcotics.
But we all know that THC stays in the system for a long time, even after the person has stopped smoking it.
I got caught several years ago on a random drug test.
I had smoked a little bit over the weekend and got tested on the following Tuesday.
I got suspended without pay until I could pass a test.

Yeah, big can of worms for sure.cbass wrote:SO what would happen if you were prescribed weed and failed a drug test at work?

Just to put some perspective on this... I saw a piece on 60 minutes some months back where a brain chemistry researcher who focused on addiction said [paraphrased] "in the US, there were some 250,000,000 prescriptions written in two thousand-something for opiate containing painkillers. Either the majority of people in this country are in terrific pain, or there is incredible over-prescription". So we have 311M Americans and 250M prescriptions written for opiates. We are talking powerful narcotics. We are also seeing detectable concentrations of mood elevators, stimulants, and birth control in the drinking water supplies of major cities. When enough people are peeing out drug metabolites many of which do not have fates in the wastewater processes and are traceable in the "cleaned" water, we have some seriously pressing issues as a country.
One only need look to the absolute cluster*ck that is Congress to understand why weed is still illegal, that, and the obvious cash cow that is Biopharma. I would love to see things from their perspective if only I could get my head that far up my ass.
Legalize it.

Your doctor would be in violation of federal narcotics guidelines.cbass wrote:SO what would happen if you were prescribed weed

Haha, pun. Yeah, for prescribing a homeopathic analgesic he would be a "kook" and not promoting the medicine-cabinet-full-of-orange-bottles-mother's-little-helper Pharm-agenda, and therefore in violation of federal "nargotics guidelines".Reeltarded wrote:Your doctor would be in violation of federal narcotics guidelines.cbass wrote:SO what would happen if you were prescribed weed
