I have a good sounding amp. Came with a mismatched set of 10's.
I have 2 used Weber 10F150 P with the blue pup cone that sound bad to me, they have no top end and sound inefficient. I was thinking of having them reconed into big nasty Princeton speakers. Weber recones their own for $25 each plus shipping. This amp sounds great through my 2x12 cab. So it's not the amp.
Weber has a 10F150 T that comes with either a 25 watt or 50 watt rated vc and cone doped or undoped.-supposed to be a good Princeton speaker.
I'm not a gigging musician and have built up enough amps that only a few get regular use. What is the opinion of Speaker cone dope with you guys. I have may old 60's speakers that are undoped and sound pretty good. A few were ratty and have had them reconed. I want to get good tone without having to pl;ay them to death for 3 mos. I'm surely not going to play them to death over time.
I figure that a MM with a pair of 6CA7's is putting out 75 watts roughly and the 50 watt rating is probably right. I know that as power handling goes up, vintage character goes down.
Any ideas how I can get good vintage character and reasonable power handling ?

Doping is supposed to prevent cone cry at volume.
A doped speaker will take much longer to break in so you might want to break it in with a variac or filament transformer.

So Structo, should I go with the "light" dope then since I have a few filament transformers lying around.

The really good-sounding Princeton speakers are C10Ns (which technically never came inPrincetons). You might ask Weber for their recommendation to get there.
Re: Musicman Sixty-five 2x10 needs speakers- want big Princeton
Yup, I used to pull them out of little Leslies.
I have 2 smooth cone C10N's that probably won't fare well with all that power. They get flubby with just a stock Princeton but the highs are stellar.

So a smooth cone probably won't work for this. Any Idea what kind of cone would give me a bit of the Princeton on steroids sound. You know just a bit edgy...
