inductor mid cut possible?

Post by andrew »

Hi, I have seen midrange cut mods for guitar that use an inductor a cap and a resistor. I wondered if something like this could be applied to an amp. Thanks.

You can use LCR arrangement for mid boost as mid cut, but for mid cut I prefer the SLO100's SRV mod. Otherwise, if you want to control the eq, you can use something like the Dr.Z Carmen Ghia tone pot.

Dumble used inductor based filters on the Steel String Singer for a post-tonestack high/low filter stage. He used multi-position switches to change the resistor/cap values for various levels of attenuation. They sound great by the way.

It sure doesn't look that easy to do. I was thinking of some variation of a Vox Cut control. Thanks for the replies though.

Thanks, yes. In place of the cut control.

Frankly the Cut control works so well on some amps I just use that.

You can experiment with the cap value and or pot.

You could do a mid cut with just caps and resistors if you experiment with the NFB loop and the presence control.

When it comes to inductors it can be much easier to use a gyrator IMO
Easier to create, no winding , if you have the supply options
