SPL/DB Meter

Post by doveman »

I picked up a meter today. I want to use this in a test of a Brake Lite on the used Route 66 I just picked up. I get a pretty good sound with the volume almost off when I'm just practicing and get a 83db rating at 1 meter. When I crank up the volume to about 2:00 the RT66 just wails and can be a little harsh sounding ... it comes in pretty loud.

I just played and set the SPL meter on "max" with the "C weighted" ... so it's a bit high and not the average but a good comparison.

All the amps RT66 (turned down), Brown Note (MV) and Richter (VVR) come in in the low 81-84db range ... pretty comfortable bedroom practice volume.

Cranked up on my normal settings:
- Richter w/2x10 EMI cab = 100db
- Brown Note w/1x12 EVM12L = 103db
- Dr Z RT66 w/2x12 G1265/M75 = 123db (4-ohm) and 120db (16-ohm)
- Dr Z RT66 w/1x12 M75 = 117db

I get the Dr Z Brake Lite in Monday ... so next week I'll play with it. The main thing is taming the RT66 a bit when cranked and taking a bit of the harsh edge off. Hope the Brake Lite works ... if not I might try the VVR ... but I'm hopeful with the Brake Lite.

SPL/DB meter is pretty cool ... been meaning to get one for a while.
