First of all, this my first post here so let me say hello. I've been playing for thirty years and over the past few years I have been teaching myself both music production and electronics (mostly as they apply to stomp boxes, guitar pickups, microphones and, of course amplifers. I plan to purchase the amp construction kit from BYOC (mainly because of the excellent manual that demonstrates every single step and that's exactly what I need to "break myself in") and that will be my first heavy duty project. I am an amateur with electronics (I do know about discharging caps though, so don't sweat that). As far as gear goes, I can solder well and fix things like pots, switches, cold joints, battery leads, etc. but if it goes beyond that I'm lost. I've have lots of hand tools and have been purchasing more as needed as well as electronic test equipment like an ESR meter, pinout detectors, and more. Plus a already had some Fluke meters so I'm good for that, one standard and one clamp. I also just bought my first oscilloscope. It's a brand new pocket oscilloscope. Here is a link to what I bought:

It's quite small and the jacks are small. I have purchased a book about osciloscopes and will be reading it, but for now can someone please explain in layman's terms how I use it to analyse audio signals? Obviously there is no 1/4 " jack on it. Do they make adapters, or do I clip the leads on the audio gear somewhere, or what? What do you all use your oscilloscopes for when testing audio devices such as effects pedals and microphones? Sorry to sound like a complete idiot, but I am asking for advice and I did buy books to study. Anything you can tell me will be helpful as I am clueless for the moment and I'm not going to whip it out and start touching everything until I understand what I am doing! Do you think this pocket oscilloscope will be good for audio applications, based on the specs on the eBay page? I am also thinking of buying something like this for a desktop unit:

I feel more comfortable buying an affordable new one than a used one of dubious origin. Is there any significant advantages to this portable desktop unit compared to my pocket oscillosope? My needs are as follows - learn how to use an oscillosope and use it for testing wavelengths and other things on mics, effects that I am building , amps that I am building, etc. I also have some old tube amps, like from the 40's and 50's that I am trying to get working. So maybe something heavier in the future. But please don't give me a hard time for the questons - I am an admittedly an amateur and I am asking for advice only. I've got the books and will put in the legwork. Right now testing output ransformers and figuring out where I connect them to an old amp I have that works but is currently without an OT is a task that I'd really like to accomplish..
Thank you!
