Schumacher PT ID

Post by andrew »

HI, I cleaned out my storage rental and found a PT that was from my PRE amp building days. The only gutted amp I had at that time would have been a silver faced solid state Fender head that I bought cheap and it didn't work. I can't remember the name of the model but it had a Dimension D (?) effect control on it. It is a Schumacher 606831 model#111542. It has 2 greens,2 blacks, 2 reds and 1 red/orange wire. It is heavy too. Looks like a regular tube amp PT . What would the one center tap be--- the heater or the power? Does anyone have any ideas on what it is? Whatever it was there were no tubes in the head. Thanks.

606 is Schumacher's EIA code, and the rest of that number is the date, 31st week of '68 or '78 (?). The red-orange (maybe yellow?) is most likely the center tap for the two reds. The blacks are the primary, and the greens are filament (or some other low-voltage winding). Measure the resistances and verify the separate windings, then hook it up and measure the voltages.

I connected the primaries, grounded the red/orange, attached the reds to a ss rectifier and got a mighty 21 volts. It must have come out of the SS Super Showman. The effect was called Dimension IV by the way.

It will probably run the heaters of three 12ZX7 in series very nicely. Or sell it on eBait. You'll get $10 for it, maybe.
