Stand for a combo amp

Folks

I have been looking for a lightweight, strong, cheap, creative way to make an amplifier combo stand.
Just to project sound a bit more upward etc.

I looked around on the internet and this is what I built (not mine- my camera is "on loan" by my daughter)

It took me all of 45 minutes to cut and assemble
Cost around $30
Takes my full weight (185 pounds of rippling muscle )
I did a dry fit first and then applied the PVC glue one joint at a time with the rest of the structure holding the basic shape
Used grey 3/4 inch PVC tubes with white couplings
It will be painted later on.

Cool. It would be nice to leave the glue off of the angled pieces so you can fold it for transport.

Exactly what I did!
Not so much for transport but in case I want to change the angle slightly later on

So the glue is really only on the outer joints. It is incredibly strong!

I bought one just like it, $40 at GC. A weld broke at a gig within the first couple months of using it.

I have two of those amp stands from MF and they have been gigged for many years without any problems. Now I don't need them anymore, hopefully a local kid will buy them.

Nice idea but I'm not sure I could trust that with an expensive tube amp.

When I played my combo I used the stand from Carvin, like the one xtian posted.
It worked well for my needs.

I had bout an x-pattern style amp stand that lifts it a couple feet off the ground...
Shortly afterwards, I made tilt-back legs out of some aluminum that I polished and blogged about it here (with pics):

They were really useful and easy to use. Less than $20 if I remember right. Used special furniture type bolts for the stoppers...

I use the $20 MF stand for combos. Had it over a year with no problems.

But I hear from the pros you get better tone with a hardwood stand (now illegal), provided the grain is void free and oriented properly.

That milk-crate ain't bad .... and it's fairly portable.


But nothing beats an old whiskey barrel for pure tone!
