I thinking about building a Liverpool soon. The Express is a lot of fun, but I need something with a little more balls.
AES has got CE multisecton can caps 20/20/20uF and 40/40/40uF rated at 525VDC. Has anyone used them? Recommended for a Liverpool?

Can Caps
I've used them on a Liverpool without too much hassle. I used a 50/50 (B1) & a 40/20/20/20.
I like the idea of separating the pre-amp/PI supply ground point away from the power section though. Should help keep the noise floor down.
Saves on real estate & cleans the layout up too.

If you want something with more balls than the Express then you should try a four gain circuit in an Express.
I used JJ 50/50 can cap and 40/20/20/20 can cap.

Re: Can caps in a Liverpool
Thanks for the suggestion, Mark. I am at a bit of an impass. I have a room full of Fenders and Marshalls, but I play through the Express 95% of the time and I use it every week for gigs. Plus, I really like what it does for blues, and I don't want to lose too much of that. At some point, I want to take another (somewhat more educated) pass through the Express, but I want to have another Wreck up and running before I do.

The Liverpool with the can caps will work well and to me so much easier then stacking caps.

Mounting?

I haven't found a datasheet yet. These are the same ones as AES sells. They look similar to multi-section caps in my Vibro Champs, which I believe are soldered to the chassis for grounding. Would it be better to solder them directly to the chassis or use clamps like my Marshalls and run the ground to a lug like the stack-o-caps? Or can you even solder to aluminium?

The last time I used one of those caps I used a can clamp bolted to the chassis instead of the insulator mounting piece that you would need for that type of cap. They are high quality and expensive.
Cannot solder to aluminum you have to drill a hole and use a grounding tab.
