fender too loud
I have a fender super sonic 60watt 1-12"
this amp never leaves the house and it is way too loud.
it has a send and return with control knobs. you can put
a patch cord between and adjust your level. not sure
how that affects my tone of the pre amp when turned
all the way down? still too loud but helps
I was reading thru some post on here it was suggested that
you can use THD YELLOW JACKET® CONVERTERS
I did some research and these sound like a great way to go.
the El 84 max output is around 6 watts does that mean
I can turn my 60 watt into a 12 watt?
has anyone use these yellow jackets? pros and cons
also any easy mods too lower output that wont break my amp?
kinda of a newbie I want to learn more about tube amps
how they tick.going to build a low voltage one here soon.

Check out the Champ DIY project.
Even with YellowJackets, your amp will still be LOUD.

Re: fender too loud
I have a pair I'll let you have cheap, if I can find them.
Re: fender too loud
The EL84 is a 12 watt tube so not sure about the 12 watt total, unless the adapter is somehow biasing the tubes colder.
So you have tried the L Pad thingie in the effects loop?

Re: fender too loud
The biggest con to using the Yellow Jacket is the size of the adaptor. They do not fit in most amps once you add tubes. I've also had artist's complaiin about the tone of the tube. But if you want what the EL84 offers is a nice way to try it other circuits.
Have you considered. ?
1.) adding a master volume
2.) a power brake / attenuator between your amp's output and the speaker. Currently about 25 different products are offered on the market. ranging from $100 - $1000 and every where inbetween.
3.) lower the preamp / PI tube from a 12AX7 to an AT7 or AU7.

Re: fender too loud
You may not like my suggestion, but if it were me I'd trade the 60 in on the SuperSonic 22.
It'll still be way too loud for the house but in a range that should be easier to deal with.
The voltages are almost at 500 VDC on the 6L6's, I don't know if that might be a bit high for the 'Jackets.
You might end up just burning up a pair of EL84s.
The 22 would be better suited for this scenario also.
Your PI has a 12AT7, it could be swapped for a 12AU7, but honestly I think that would only play cleaner and not really get a thicker sound at bedroom volume.
It is worth a try, though.
60 watts is a lot for the house, innit ?
Really, go check out the 22, it's everything in the 60 except for the Deluxe-ish output stage. Then we can help you mod the baloney out of it.

Re: fender too loud
thank for all the replies.I got a great deal on this amp so I had too buy it
I have a marshall jtm but I really been
getting into that fender sound more and more lately.
The clean channel Vibrolux/bassman sound really good
and the reverb is great. with the more modern gain channel just makes
it more versitile.
more info on them thanks
but 1 brand says 6 watts and other says 12 watts

I dont need a bedroom amp just something that wont
rattle the windows on 1. I was looking into how to build a
attenuator when I came across the yellow jackets.
can I get a link ti that Lpad thingie for the effects loop.
Selloutrr
my marshall has a master not sure why fender didnt put one
the supersonic I would love to mod one in but not sure if thats
a option can you steer me in the right direction with info thanks.
thats the first thing I thought of I should trade mine for it.

I put a set in a '93 Fender Concert and it was still way too loud.
Re: fender too loud
Maybe install one of Dana's Variable Voltage Controls.
Re: fender too loud
I got a customer that was looking for Super Sonic 60 but I beefed up a Reverb Rocket with 6550's and he is really liking that.
You should advertise that amp it would sell.

Re: fender too loud
I've got four adapters that'd let you run 12AX7s as power tubes. If I remember right, it's about a watt per tube? Half a watt for 12AU7s. If you've got an efficient cab, it's surprising what it can sound like.

I think both data sheets say about 4.5 to 6 watts output.
The 12W is plate/anode dissipation.
