Hi folks, I built a 18 Watt IIB 6 months ago that sounds nice but leaves something to be desired. I have been looking at adding more tone control, chime, drive, and more high end when driven. Lately I have been browsing the forum for some 18 watt rocket opinions and found KT66's layout (attached) but heard that for some reason the 2 EL84 rocket, lacks the chime of a normal rocket and sounds closer to a IIB.
Are there any other opinions on the 18 watt Rocket or a liverpool? I've seen some schematics for the "t rex" but am thinking that it may be closer to an express? I think that would be more drive than i am lookng for. With that said, i have not been able to find sound clips of a t rex build.
I do have some pretty solid components (magnetic components transformers, sozo caps, etc..) to work with and am planning on purchasing more to support this build.
Let me know what you guys are thinking...Rocket? Liverpool? other?
Thanks

Re: Ideas for an 18 Watt build
As for the Trex, yes it is a higher gain amp or channel. The Trex is an 18 watt channel, and a wreckish type channel.
Mark Huss had some clips of it on his site.
But your probably wanting the Rocket circut.
Even the Rocket can be bumped up some in gain.
