I hadn't seen this before, so I thought I'd post it here.

In particular, there's a nice section that shows settings on the old AudioArts parametric EQ. I always wondered how he was using it....
Here's a nice example of this very rig in action. Beautiful tone, IMHO. Surprising sounds from the EMG-loaded Strat in particular. I'll admit I'm not familliar with their midrange boost, though.

Any speculations on what setup this Dumble is? High-plate non-HRM Classic?

wow! nice clip for sure. Who needs a 335?
I am surprised there is an eq in the circuit. Would love to hear the amp without that.
Sounds like a low plate non-HRM amp. I bet Brandon could clear that up.

Re: Old Larry Carlton guitar rig video
From listening to theses videos I don’t feel able to tell if this one is a high plate or a low plate "classic", but for sure it is a 4th generation "classic" - in regard to this I am in no doubt. I have played both, high plate and low plate classics, and AFAIR both would be able to deliver more or less such a kind of tone with this kind of rack and in Larry Carlton’s hands.kleinm wrote:Any speculations on what setup this Dumble is? Because of this I believe, that e. g. #124, retrofitted to "classic" specs (see: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=5719)
or something like this: http://www.gbase.com/files/store_images ... 2lf_so.jpg
or #075 (pictures: http://www.maverick-music.com/scripts/v ... oduct=1968),
or #094 and #123 (see: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=5874. AFAIR #123 was tweaked to be used with a 1956 strat and for staying clean in the clean channel even at high "Volume" settings. BTW: No idea, if the #123 schematic in this thread is correct),
or any other of the "transition generation" or "4th generation" ODS, could probably deliver such a kind of tone with this kind of rack and in the hands of Larry Carlton.
But let’s see what others thought and perhaps still think:
At first let’s look back a bit:

http://archive.ampage.org/threads/1/gag ... ODS-1.html
http://archive.ampage.org/threads/1/ope ... one-1.html
and now two ampgarage threads:

https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=11377
This thread is closely connected with these two:

Have fun and a nice Sunday,

Re: Old Larry Carlton guitar rig video
I believe the amp is a high plate classic. Still have one of those Audio Arts EQs, sold one to Andy Fuchs. Quite truthfully, the EQ is the foundation for that tone you hear on the video.Tonegeek wrote:wow! nice clip for sure. Who needs a 335?![]()

Re: Old Larry Carlton guitar rig video
Would have been nice but I couldn't hear it. Most of these videos have no volume at all on my computer, just a hair louder than a mouse pissin' on a cotton ball.
Re: Old Larry Carlton guitar rig video
Great information, guys. Thanks!
Gil, is there something about the way the AudioArts colors the tone as an individual unit, or would any decent parametric EQ work?
