Fender PA100?

Anyone ever use one of these as the basis for an ODS? Sort of a strange control layout, but it might have potential...

Awhile ago, maybe 4-5 years a friend had one and I offerered him a barter deal. I'd Dumbleize his amp if he'd build be a guitar body (he's a real craftsman with woodworking).

I took the amp and looked it over. Pretty simple really, Twin Reverb Power section and output section with a little tweaking of components. Preamp was prety simple as well, single triode > tone stack > Gain recovery> mixer > reverb.

I left channel 1 alone, sounded great for cleans, took the first gain stage of channel 2, upped the input impedance to 1M, took the out and routed to the in of the second channel. Some coupling component tweaks and it sounded good, then adjusting the gain by putting voltage dividers between stages.

By the time I was done, I had channel 1 clean, channel 3 grunge, channel 2 70's Dumble singing and channel 4 was a sacrifice. All this done on terminal straps.

Very cool platform, excellent iron and tons of room in that chassis.

Oh, and I forgot to add.... I finished the amp overhaul in a month.... 3 ears later I received my guitar body, flawless and exactly what I wanted. Put a Warmoth neck, Wilkenson Trem and Armstrong PUs and it's a real player.

Thanks, Bob! I may try to pick it up. I'm almost wondering about making one channel HRM, with the controls on the outside...those groups of 3 look kinda cool for that, maybe.

Same Iron as a twin, good for a donor at least. Could be fun to mix and match stages...

Well, Channels 1 and 2 didn't work consistently, it had no reverb tank...so I picked it up cheap. Looks like it could be fun!

Anybody have extra main component boards for a build like this? I'm picking up a set of Jason's power and HRM boards. Maybe a full-on Bluesmaster?

Gotta start thinking about what to do with all that space and all those holes. Internal D-lator, for sure! How tough would it be to do a switchable HRM/non-HRM OD channel? Hmmmm....
