Your Daddy's Tax Dollars at Work

Post by David Root »

I ordered some NOS noval sockets w/shield base from AES. As a pleasant surprise they showed up in real old military packaging, see pix below. Note the contract date. I tried to get 12, but they are only allowing 10 per customer.

I worked in supply in the Marines and had two complete radar units parts in my replenishment stock. Lot of resistors and small parts to keep track of and it all came in the packaging you showed.

Federal Stock Number FSN is 5935-224-1053 should we get the military requistioners to order us some. :)

On the other side of the shield base is "ELCO" over TS103P01.

We should be so lucky to get these duplicated with OUR tax dollars!

They slot perfectly into a '67 Bassman chassis, but the modern Belton shields I have are a bit too tight of a fit, and unfortunately they don't look right. '67 Fender shields fit like a glove and look great! So now I need 10 NOS shields! Not much chance of that I think.

I have a bunch of those that I salvaged from an old military flight simulator. They are indestructable. They are reluctant to give back tubes though. Be ready for a lot of wiggling when you want to swap tubes.

A tube Wrangler huh :)

I had some Cinch octal tube sockets that I break off the indicator when I remove tubes because it is so hard get out. Those two sockets are going to get replaced someday.
