One thing I noticed is the generational differences in gear and music.
The expectations are completely different.

So I've been digging around in schematics of amps that use a foe-distortion
distortion circuit, clippers etc. That 80's marshal combo tone.
Mesa had it too but marshal set the bar, still at all reasonable price points
guitars amps today have a representation of tone produced that way.

You see some clippers applied in oranges and hiwatts and garnets,
and we all had fuzz boxes at some point.

Gibson maestro is the "fuzz tone" by patent name

fender tonebender is the California fuzz

super fuzz is the fuzz of grunge

Dallas arbiter fuzzface is the jimi fuzz but only the vintage is true the new fuzzface is a Dunlop licensed product

in some regards the electro voice / red army / sovtek big muff pi one of the most popular fuzz distion sustain pedals ever created.

If it's vintage germainium transistor it's " true fuzz " they all do the same thing just have an extra feature or dif housing.

Its a funny thing..... germanium clipping, silicon is harsh.

Cranked tone, crunch channel, it's in every amp made with a distortion channel
And its a fuzz circuit.
