Anyone built a tube stereo power amp on the cheap?
I'm just curious if anyone has or could point me to a schematic or layout to a nice simple all tube stereo power amp that I could use for a record player? I'd love to build a simple PTP one for as cheap as possible. I don't listen to audiophile type stuff, but I want it to be cool and last. Something I could be proud of.

From most turntables you would also need a preamp to boost the level to the power amp. There are some DIY hi-fi amp projects at http://angela.com/thehow-tosection.aspx, along with some guitar amp projects. I'm sure there's more out there, but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

Take out the "e" and that's a fun site -- cool tip. http://boozhoundlabs.com/dartanion wrote:Try boozehoundlabs.com. Fun guys and some nice easy HiFi stuff there.

something like a deluxe PT with a couple champ opt works nice
depends on your expectations of wattage, even just a few watts can be
very nice in the right listening situation

The boozhound site has a nice selection of easy projects that they have already done the legwork on, so give some of them a shot. They even have DIY speaker projects too.

Over the last year I've snagged three (functional) tube stereos - complete with turntables (2 of 3 functional) for between $20 and $50 at Goodwill, Salvation Army and a used furniture store.
Have replaced the 'lytics and a couple of tubes, but for less than $120 all in, I'm pretty pleased.
Hope this helps!
