Which Bassman OT?

Post by kd »

I'm building an amp and at some point want to replace the OT with a Bassman unit. The amp is a ODS 101 non HRM with two 6L6 tubes. Do I want one from the tweed Bassman or from one of the later models? Whichever I get, it will have 4-8-16 secondary taps on it. Magnetic Components looks to have a good selection with fair prices, anyone used their transformers?

Thanks,
Ken

I would recommend the blackface Bassman transformer. Something like this, perhaps.

Just my opinion.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

That's the one! They are very good and more than fair priced. The 100W Marshall OT at $54 is a steal! They have old tooling and and have been in business since WW2. IMHO they have the right stuff.

I used all Mag Comp iron in my 70's build and am very happy with it so far. The price is sure right and they apparently supply a lot of different builders.
I had a question on my PT and got a direct response from them within 24 hours.
Happy, happy.
