PreSonus FireBox, CUBASE, PRO TOOLS
I Have a couple of questions.
1. Does anyone here have experience with using a FireBox and CUBASE in Windows 7. I am trying to get these working together but am failing!
2. Does anyone here know if ProTools LE can be used with a FireBox?

Protools only works with Protools devices, so no, it won't work with the PreSonus Firebox. I have the FireStudio and have had issues with Cubase LE. I have had better luck with other software like GarageBand and Audacity, but I am a Mac guy, so I cant offer much help with Windows 7.

Forgive me if you've already tried this, but the first place I'd go is the Cubase forums here: http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2Greg wrote:I Have a couple of questions.

You could also try a recording forum like http://messageboard.tapeop.com.

You might also try Reaper: http://www.reaper.fm
Coded by Justin Frankl (the guy who wrote winamp), 50 bucks if you're not using it for profit. The trial version never expires so payment is on the honor system. That said, it's pro quality stuff, supports most plugins, comes with a bunch of free ones. It's got a great support forum as well. Can't hurt to try.
No personal connection, just a satisfied user.

Did you have Firebox and Cubase working in another op system (XP), or is this the first go?
One thing about the Firebox is that it has compatability issues with certain AMD supporting chipsets; GeForce believe. I've got that set, but so far mine is working ok. Seems to be a hit and miss issue.
As far as intuitive interfaces, Mackie's Tracktion wins hands down of the one's I've tried. Includes Cakewalk, Cubase, ProTools lite. And it's pretty cheap at 89 bucks for the Ultimate Bundle. Unfortunately, it is an orphaned product; meaning the current version is the -last- Mackie will ever put out.

Re: PreSonus FireBox, CUBASE, PRO TOOLS
this is my first go...I can play the guitar well and I can use computers good enough to be an Aerospace engineer but this FIREBOX CUBASE opertating system is giving me fits.
The laptop I am using was purchased two days ago. It is an HP dv7-3085dx.
Intel CORE i7...
the FIREBOX has a blue light and CUBASE is recognizing ambient audio signals but I cannot get it to recognize a mic or guitar input.

This seems familiar; I was there myself. Unfortunately it's been too long to remember the exact particulars.Greg wrote: the FIREBOX has a blue light and CUBASE is recognizing ambient audio signals but I cannot get it to recognize a mic or guitar input.
First off, read your Firebox manual very carefully. What you think might be inputs/outputs to particular sections/devices is a bit counterintuitive. Also make sure you boot the machine with it attached.
In Cubase, I'd go for the help files. Or search on " audio input" if you have a .pdf version. I had it, but used it 2-3 years ago with the Firebox. It was at least a two-step process with the caveat that was with XP.
Re: PreSonus FireBox, CUBASE, PRO TOOLS
I am working on updates to CUBASE LE 4 now and inquiring via emails to both presonus and cubase tech support...I will keep reading the forums and trying...

Hi. I run XPSP3 with a C2Q 9550 and Cubase 5. Cubase is good with Win7 I am told, but as of yet I haven't made the switch. I use the Mackie Oynx firewire interface and it works very well with both operating systems, XP and Win7. I say go to Steinberg and see if they recognize that interface using Win7.
Also see if Presonus offers a Win7 driver (download on their site?)- this may be the deal breaker. You don't need a tech support guy for this but I get that it is sometimes easier to ask. Mackie has surprised me at times, but likewise has not been as much help as I had once hoped. Which is to say that you need to bust a move sometimes and be prepared to reverse course if the road gets bumpy. In the end, the individual computer is very unique - the tech people for these companies (software and hardware) DO NOT have your exact PC setup at their work station! Good luck. OH, also, DO NOT FORGET the GOOGLE option of asking a general question to all the members of cyberspace. I have found answers out there that have really helped my PC audio configuration. This is a seriously amazing age we live in.

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?
