Please help me to understand better how this works. I've been reading the tube data sheets and trying to make sense. I'm seeking some practical advice for an amp that I'd like to build running a pair of 6LGC PP. I'm not hung up on class of operation, but I'm guessing it will end up as AB1. I only mention AB1 as it may have a relationship to the question.
I'm planning for a full wave diode rectifier and to put a choke between the plates and screens.
For PT's I've got some choices. I've got 3 that I think are up to the job. I've got two that will give me plate voltage of about 420v (290-0-290, and another that requires and begs for a doubler) and one that will give me about 500V (360-0-360).
I've got two output transformers that look like they are up to the job. One is an original Stancor A-3801, 150mA, 35W, 6K6 primary. The other is unknown, but based on weight and size, I am guessing it is at least equivalent to the Stancor but it has a 4K5 primary.
I've gathered that I've got to control screen voltage to keep the wattage where the OT can handle what the tubes produce.
So, what can I do with this mix? I'm having some difficulty sorting it out. This seems to be above my head at the moment.
Thanks.

Re: OT primary for 6L6GC
Phil,
Given the choices you have I would go with the 290-0-290 PT and the 6.6K OT.
I think your B+ voltage will be more in the range of ~390vdc. 380 to about 430 is a sweet place to be for 6l6's.
Use fixed bias and plan on AB1.
This setup, in my opinion and experience, will be a nice amp.

Re: OT primary for 6L6GC
Hi Phil
a pair of 6L6s in PP will run happily anywhere between 3k2 and 6k6. If you are gunning for the lower voltage, they will sound nice on 6k6. Either of those OTs will work. (IMHO)

Re: OT primary for 6L6GC
Thanks...I'm looking for lots of clean headroom. Actual watts are not that important. A pair of 6L6 is going to put out 30-50W in fixed bias, depending... It seems like the 6K6 and the lower voltage PT is the way to go. Is that what I'm reading?
Re: OT primary for 6L6GC
Phil I just finished up my Rocket 6L6 using Pacific 280v PT and Pacific 6k6 OT.
I did not add any further controls only what the Rocket normally has, it is cathode bias and I also ran a 158L Hammond choke.
Great sounding amp nice deep tone and adjust the cut control for more highs. Adding more switching like Rawnsters Reverb Rocket schematic would be a good choice as well.
