Don't often dredge up a thread that's gone for weeks but in this case it's worth it, for a strong & sure female voice we all know and love. Been seeing a mention or two about Linda Ronstadt's recently discovered condition so here's a link to read all about it from a somewhat trustworthy source.

Besides all her albums, all those hit singles, Linda sang background on tons of songs esp. in the 70's - 80's, probably some of your old faves. If that's not enough, she produced some David Lindley albums, also BV's on those. She deserves a medal for that, in my estimation.

She reckons her voice is shot, won't sing again, and that's very sad. Who knows, there are some good modern treatments for Parkinson's and let's hope for a miracle. If not, well she looks pretty confident in that NYT photo. Let's wish her the best!

FWIW I was able to read all 3 pages of the NYT article without their dreaded paywall getting in the way. Hope you can too or find a workaround.

My youngest saw the film 20 Feet From Stardom with one of her friends (on her own; she knew I'd seen it, but I didn't put her up to it) and then asked me if I wanted to go see it again with her. Her brother (the real musician) insisted on coming too. Nice to see the kids taking notice. Second time through I'm still "OMG is Lisa Fisher amazing!" Range from way down here to way up there, and weird and beautiful and soulful sounds.

And thank you too Martin for Linda sings Zevon. You'll find her on plenty of BV's on Warren Zevon albums too.

A couple years ago I heard an excellent interview with John David Souther on WFUV (can likely be found on their archive.) He said, early days we were all just kids with guitars and songs, stompin' up and down Sunset trying to get gigs. Nobody was a star. We all loved Linda, she was the only one who had a contract, so she was the only one who had a car. And she helped us move our band gear from place to place. - - - There was also a guy who played piano, and he had the most unusual songs. Warren.

I think Linda will continue to be a force, her book's about to come out, but it is likely she won't be singing any more. Ya never know - it was through Linda that the McGarrigle Sisters became better known, and they had a vocal wobble that some find endearing.

Kregg, those are greats for sure, some mentioned above already. After seeing Beth Hart live I have to give another thumbs-up.

Watching these ladies sing is really another dimension. I saw a nice documentary interview piece on Amy Winehouse the other night (Amy Winehouse At Her Best), and that added a great deal to my appreciation of her work and magnified the tragedy of her death.

I saw Linda on a talk show the other day and she has Parkinson's disease.

Not much symptoms yet but it explains her absence on the music scene.

I kind of lost interest in her years ago when she would use the stage as a soap box to spout her political beliefs.

But, no doubt a gifted artist and great singer.

Just discovered this tonight. I've heard it is possible for one singer to sing two notes simultaneously, but I've never heard it before now. This is Lalah Hathaway in a live studio setting with a large ensemble. At 6:10, she sings two notes simultaneously, and does it a total of four times. She has really good control of the pitches. This is really amazing to me!
